Dampak Negatif Migrasi Sirkuler dan Teknologi Komunikasi: Ancaman terhadap Ketahanan dan Dinamika Keluarga di Kabupaten Wonogiri
Abstract
This study examines the vulnerability of circular migrant family institutions in Wonogiri Regency, triggered by changes in relational structures despite increasing material well-being. Using the theoretical framework of Transnationalism and Gender Role Analysis, this study employs an interpretive qualitative approach to analyze family transformation in long-distance marriages mediated by communication technology. The results show that: (a) migration results in significant shifts in gender roles through remittance empowerment, which increases the financial autonomy and bargaining power of wives in their home regions; (b) communication technologies, such as video calls and social media, function both as instruments of cohesion and as sources of new conflict, where real-time monitoring practices trigger suspicion and arguments; (c) the high rate of divorce lawsuits is a manifestation of the courage of financially empowered wives to end disharmonious marriages, a situation exacerbated by the failure of local institutional mediation in handling virtual and trans-local conflicts. This study concludes that the resilience of migrant families in Wonogiri must be pursued through ethical digital literacy and the strengthening of trans-local mediation mechanisms, rather than mere economic improvement.
